Thoughts on the Article

Well, I downloaded the video and it blew me right off of my seat, what else do I have to say?  Most of the footage was of the Amazon, though there was a good portion that was divided between the Paladin and the Sorceress (no Necromancer in sight).  We were treated to a display of the Amazon running around in Act I, both day and night, dishing out various sorts of pain to the monsters in that Act.  She used everything from Exploding Arrows, Ice Arrows, to the amazing-looking Exploding Ice Arrows.  The latter actually were a ranged attack that froze monsters that were close to the epicenter of their blast.

One of the most amazing things was seeing all this in beautiful 3dfx, the colored lighting flashing off the explosions of fire and ice, and the rendered beauty of the landscapes through which she traversed.  To my own eyes, I enjoyed watching the true 360 degrees of freedom of movement she had.  There was no blocky 8 paths of movements, the character made liquid turns as she ran from the bad guys.

We also got a glimpse of the inventory system, and I must say it is looking good.  Now it wraps around certain objects on the screen (the mana sphere included) and has a 10x4 area for storing your inventory.  It has a total of ten slots to equip items, as you will be able to equip boots, gloves, weapons, shields, belts, rings, amulets, and helms.  Some items now take up new dimensions in the inventory, for instance staves now take up 1x4 slots, not 2x3.  This is a lot better for those of us taking spellcasters.

Another thing I beheld was the seamless level loading, with absolutely no load time.  The player takes us across the boundaries of one level and into the next, explaining that we just entered a new level.  There was no hint, it all happened as if one had never left the level that they had previously been in.  The monster displayed enchanced AI, following the character across, some of them even running themselves.

The video was long and chock full of new and glorious information.  I really can't hope to explain it all to you.  My advice: download it for yourself and see what I mean.  It takes a long time, it took me all night, but it most definitely is worth it.  Remember, it's in our downloads section, last entry.  Enjoy!
